WHO is Ivor?
Ivor Chappell is an all-round living Curlewis legend!
In the entire Curlewis 50 year history, no one has ever been as passionate or committed to Curlewis as has Ivor.
Appointed as an Officer on the first Curlewis Golf Club Committee in 1970, Ivor was appointed Honorary Treasurer and served in this position for a total of 16 years. His financial acumen has been credited to the continuing financial viability of the club during this period.
Previous to this, during the early days of Curlewis, it wasn’t unusual to see Ivor out line-planting fairways with couch sprigs, then coming back to hand-water them at 3am with 300m of hose dragging behind him. He was also appointed Acting Club Manager in 1993, then Joint Club Administrator in 1994. He was awarded Life Membership in 1990.
Ivor embodies all that Curlewis stands for. Honesty. Friendship. Welcoming. Caring. Committed. Fun.
It is a privilege to be able to name a place of gathering and good times here at Curlewis after such a legend.
